Reporting and Parents' Evenings

The formal mechanisms for communicating pupils’academic attainment, progress and attitude to study to parents are half-termly grades and an integrated system of Parents’ Evenings and written reports. The aim is to enable pupils, parents and staff to monitor pupil progress regularly.  All pupils will be awarded half-termly attainment and attitude grades for all subjects including Games and excluding Sixth Form General Studies

There will be at least one Parents’ Evening per year group during the school year where subject teachers, Tutors of a year group and the Deputies along with the Headmaster will be available for consultation.  An appointments system operates, and interviews are designed for relatively straightforward or routine matters: in cases of particular academic or behavioural difficulty, parents are requested to arrange supplementary interviews in the course of the year at mutually convenient times.

Attitude Report Grades:

Attitude Grades are the same for all years

1.         The student consistency makes maximum effort and shows excellent attitude.
2.         Attitude and effort have been good.
3.         Effort is inconsistent, a more positive attitude and greater application is required
4.         The student must work harder and change to a more positive attitude in order to succeed.

Grade 2 and above are the expected levels for attitude for HCS pupils.
A Grade 3 on a progress card or full report will be qualified by a teacher’s written comment.

A Grade 4 means that the pupil is deliberately putting in no effort and most likely pulling others down.  A Grade 4 is likely to be infrequent and is designed to highlight underachieving pupils.  When a Grade 4 is awarded the subject teacher will liaise with the pupil’s Tutor and Head of House. The Tutor, Head of House or subject teacher, will contact the parents of pupils awarded Grade 4 before a report is received explaining clearly why this grade has been awarded

All grades awarded will be based on an accurate assessment of marks obtained either under examination conditions or in normal term work
